Individual Counseling

About Sarah Greco, LMFT

Picture
I’m Sarah Greco, and I believe your story matters.
I work with individuals who want to heal, find balance, and reconnect with their sense of worth by building on the strengths they already have. I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to support you as you uncover your insight, resilience, and inner resources—at your own pace.

Therapy is about feeling heard, supported, and empowered as you move toward the life you want. I value a whole-person approach and believe meaningful healing happens when the mind, body, and spirit are all acknowledged and supported.

My approach is strengths-based and trauma-informed, grounded in collaboration, compassion, and respect. Healing comes from within you, and therapy provides a safe space for that growth to unfold.

On a personal note, I grew up outside of Boston. After graduating college, I moved to Southern California. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, attending live music, traveling, and exploring the hidden gems of San Diego.
Experience
I have been in private practice for over a decade. Prior to becoming a therapist, I managed a program serving mentally ill, unhoused adults in San Diego. Working with this routinely under-served population shaped my clinical perspective and deepened my commitment to honoring the inherent value and dignity of every human life.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving and supporting survivors of domestic violence, developmentally disabled adults, children with open Child Protective Services (CPS) cases, and Veterans experiencing co-occurring disorders, including mental illness and substance use disorders.
My experience and training include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-informed care, play therapy, co-occurring disorders treatment, motivational interviewing, family systems therapy, couples therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and holistic health methodologies.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor for MFT, MSW, and LPCC interns and trainees. If you are an intern or trainee seeking clinical supervision, I welcome you to reach out for more information.

I have served as a clinical supervisor for interns/trainees at:
  • Pathways Catalyst Program, an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program. Catalyst provides services to Transitional Age Youth (TAY) ages 16 to 25 with a serious mental illness, and who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused in San Diego County. https://www.kickstartsd.org/catalyst-assertive-community-treatment/

Areas of Focus & Professional Experience:
In addition to individual therapy, I am an energetic educator and provide on-site classes and workshops for organizations and professionals. Topics include:
  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Recovery and Treatment Planning
  • Stages of Change
  • Effective Boundary Setting
  • The Value of Self-Care in the Workplace
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
  • Suicide Assessment and Prevention
This background informs my clinical work and allows me to integrate practical tools with compassion and real-world understanding.

Memberships and Affiliations:
  • Active member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists).
  • Trained San Diego CADRE (Change Agents Developing Recovery Excellence) member. I participate in creating and evaluating the training curriculum and procedures for new leaders who provide welcoming, accessible, integrated, age-appropriate, culturally competent, continuous, and comprehensive services to those who have both mental illness and substance abuse challenges.

About Therapy:
What to Expect in Therapy: Because everyone’s goals are different, therapy looks different for each person. Sessions typically involve discussing current life events, personal history, and reflecting on insights or progress from previous sessions.
Therapy may be short-term and focused on a specific concern, or longer-term to address deeper patterns or personal growth. Most clients attend sessions regularly, usually weekly.
Progress is strongest when you actively engage in the process. Discomfort can be a normal part of healing, and meaningful change often happens there. I may suggest supportive practices outside of sessions—such as journaling, reading, or small actions aligned with your goals—to help you apply what you learn to daily life.

Therapy from the comfort of your home:

This is called tele-medicine, tele-health or tele-therapy.
I use a platform called doxy.me. It is HIPAA compliant and works automatically in popular browsers. You will need access to a computer (with internet and a camera), as well as a confidential, cozy space (home, work, etc.) to receive treatment.
